Protected environment with an abundant amount of marine life and great underwater clarity so you can see them!<\/p>\n<p>Monterey&#8217;s rocky bottom and coastline may make it hazardous for surfing, but it is wonderful for underwater visibility.\u00a0 Unlike Santa Cruz, it doesn&#8217;t have as much of sandy bottom to churn up.<\/p>\n<p>Always play it safe.\u00a0 Most of the area&#8217;s SCUBA diving locations can be very dangerous and should only be explored by advanced divers.\u00a0 If you are unfamiliar with a particular dive spot, be sure to visit a local dive shop to find out about dive locations and conditions that will match your skill level.<\/p>\n<p>Click here for locations in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.explorer1.com\/halfmoonbay\/\">Half Moon Bay<\/a>\u00a0(85 miles north) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.explorer1.com\/santacruz\/\">Santa Cruz<\/a> (40 miles north)<\/p>\n<h2>Monterey SCUBA Dive Locations<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"image_left\" style=\"width: 80px; height: 70px; float: left; margin-right: 10px;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.explorer1.com\/images\/sports\/Del-Monte.jpg?w=1080\" alt=\"Del Monte\" \/>Del Monte Beach \u00a0 \u2013\u00a0 Monterey<\/h3>\n<p>Located north of Fisherman&#8217;s Wharf, this is one of the safest areas for the beginning surfers.\u00a0 Gentle rolling waves are usually found here year-round.<\/p>\n<p>This is also a great beginning to intermediate SCUBA dive area.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityofpacificgrove.org\/living\/recreation\/parks\/lovers-point-park\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lover&#8217;s Point<\/a>\u00a0 \u2013\u00a0 Pacific Grove<\/h3>\n<p>Ocean View Blvd. and 17th St., Pacific Grove, CA<\/p>\n<p>The 4.4 acre community park is great for picnicking, fishing, swimming, kayaking, surfing and of course SCUBA diving.\u00a0 It is a well protected area, so it&#8217;s a good dive area for beginning to advanced divers.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/www.parks.ca.gov\/?page_id=28353\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Point Lobos State Natural Reserve<\/a>\u00a0 \u2013\u00a0 Carmel<\/h3>\n<p>62 Highway 1, Carmel, CA\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (831) 624-4909\u200e<\/p>\n<p>Because of its beauty, abundant marine life, and incredible underwater visibility, this is considered to be the best SCUBA diving in California .\u00a0 Often referred to as Whalers Cove or Bluefish Cove, it is a protected reserve so access is limited.\u00a0 Reservations are highly recommended.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/www.parks.ca.gov\/?page_id=576\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Monterey State Beach<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Del Monte Avenue at Park Avenue Monterey, CA\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (831) 649-2836<\/p>\n<p>The beach is a favorite place for surfers and for tide pooling. Fishing is popular, too. The cities of Monterey and Seaside share the park, which has three separate beaches approximately a mile apart.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/www.montereyscubaboard.com\/breakwater.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">San Carlos Beach<\/a>\u00a0 \u2013\u00a0 Monterey<\/h3>\n<p>Cannery Row at Reeside Ave., Monterey, CA<\/p>\n<p>Due to its proximity to Cannery Row, this popular dive spot can get very crowded with beachgoers.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/shorediving.com\/Earth\/USA_West\/CalN\/McAbee_Beach\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">McAbee Beach<\/a>\u00a0 \u2013\u00a0 Monterey<\/h3>\n<p>Cannery Row at Hoffman Ave., Monterey, CA<\/p>\n<p>Less crowded that San Carlos Beach, this is a good dive for all skill levels.
