The Half Moon Bay Old City Jail was constructed in 1911 and served as the town’s jail until 1936, when a new facility was built.

The jail is a one-story brick building with a sloping roof, located on Johnston Street just off Main Street near the heart of the town’s historic district. It features a small exercise yard, barred windows, and two cells, each with a bunk bed and toilet.

The jailhouse has been preserved and restored over the years, and now serves as a museum that is open to the public. Visitors can tour the building and learn about its history, as well as the history of law enforcement in Half Moon Bay and the surrounding area.

The Half Moon Bay Historic Jail is a popular attraction for tourists and locals alike, offering a unique glimpse into the town’s past and the challenges faced by law enforcement in the early 20th century.
